Breaking records, Sycco has become the first artist to take home Song of the Year and the Pop Award two years in a row at the Queensland Music Awards (QMA).
Otherwise known as Sasha McLeod, the young Aboriginal musician’s hit single My Ways saw her take out both awards at the ceremony on Wednesday evening.
The Brisbane local first won in 2021, taking the Pop Award throne from Amy Shark.
The awards were hosted at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on the birthday of late music great Billy Thorpe. A $10,000 scholarship in his honour was awarded to Indigenous emerging artist, Cloe Terare.
The scholarship, presented by Billy's widow Lynne and state arts minister Leanne Enoch, provides the Ms Terare the opportunity to record with a local producer and receive mentorship from industry experts.

The Toowoomba-based talent has struck gold two years running, winning the Regional Award in 2021.
Doubling down on victory was the flavour of the night as Miiesha, who hails from the Aboriginal community of Woorabinda, won the Soul/Funk/R&B Award, also for the second year running.
Following in the footsteps of her father, Jem Cassar-Daley took home the Indigenous Music Award for her hit Letting Go.
The young star took the stage with father Troy to pay tribute to Mop & the Dropouts.

The duo brought the crowd to their feet, performing a cover of their iconic protest song Brisbane Blacks.
The track was written by Dennis ‘Mop’ Conlon, who stood amongst the crowd that evening.
Mop & the Dropouts were honoured at the awards, for the QMusic Lifetime Achievement Awards, Mr Conlon accepting the honour.
2022 was a record year for QMusic, with the most Indigenous nominees ever.
