World Vision Australia has launched a 'ladder of generosity' to uncover which AFL supporters are the most charitable.
An online survey of 10,000 respondents found Geelong Cats fans gave the most to help those in need, followed by backers of the West Coast Eagles and Western Bulldogs.
World Vision spokesman Zane Kuramoto said while the organisation regularly conducted research into donor trends, this year the charity decided to add some football fun to the survey questions.
“We decided to dig a little deeper and find out what footy team they supported,” he said.
“We were surprised to see that in some cases their position on the generosity ladder matched where they were on the actual ladder.”
Gold Coast Suns followers were ranked the least generous fans – and encouraged by World Vision to give what they can before the end of the financial year.
“Of course, the research is a bit tongue-in-cheek, the results aren’t set in stone. Just like the sporting ladder, it only captures a moment in time,” Mr Kuramoto said.
“Who knows, come July we might see Collingwood or the Hawks on top of the ladder.”
