Nakia Cockatoo is on the way back from injury and could be back on the field this weekend. The young forward has resumed training and as he embarks on a return to the senior side.

Cockatoo could be in for a return to Geelong’s VFL side when they take on Williamstown this Sunday.

The 19-year-old rookie injured his right knee back in round seven against the West Coast Eagles, requiring surgery to repair his lateral ligament.

Nakia could be rushed back to the VFL as the Cats’ reserves have a bye next weekend, meaning Cockatoo’s return would then be delayed a further fortnight.

Geelong physio Mark Young said the club would be careful with how they manage the youngster.

"Nakia is making great strides. He's joined the group. He's in full training now and we will just consider our options this week and next with how we progress his rehab," Young told the Cats' website.
