Scott Prince knows what it takes to be a young half in the pressure filled arena of State of Origin and now he’s hailed inclusion of Cronulla Sharks livewire, Jack Bird, in the Blues hot seat.

Bird has been thrust into the Blues starting side at five-eighth for Game II on Wednesday evening and Prince told NITV’s League Nation Live he’ll more than handle it, saying he’s a potential match winner.

“I think it’s a great ploy by Laurie Daley and the selectors to put Bird at Five-Eighth.

“He’s got that great combination with James Maloney obviously at the Cronulla Sharks, and we all know how good they’re going at the moment.

“He’ll take the line on, he’s a runner and he’ll have James Maloney steering the ship with his kicking game,” Prince said.

New South Wales have already lost the series and at 2-0 down, Prince would like to see a change in tact by the Blues.

The former Maroons half has encouraged New South Wales to take the game to Queensland.

“I think they need to back themselves, instead of more wanting to defend themselves to victory.

“They need to back themselves and back their attack, that’s the only way they’re going to win against Queensland. Don’t try to defend them, because it’s hard. How about you score 20, we’ll score 22”, said Prince.
