Broncos star Sam Thaiday broke down in tears whilst completing a post-game interview following Brisbane’s heartbreaking loss to the North Queensland Cowboys last weekend.
Thaiday, appeared on Tuesday’s episode of NITV’s League Nation Live and explained the emotions that brought him to tears, revealing his fear that his career is starting to wind down.
“I was definitely heartbroken,” said Thaiday.

“I’m 31 now, played professional Rugby League now for 14 years and I’ve won one premiership. It just shows how hard it is to get there.
“I think that’s why I was so emotional. I don’t know how many years I’ve got left as a player. Careers end all the time now, especially with the Broncos. We want to keep all this great young talent around, so a lot of us older boys get pushed out."
Thaiday’s family was part of a group of Broncos’ families who were forced to charter a plane to get to Townsville in order to see the match, after airlines lifted prices to extravagant levels.

Thaiday, who grew up in Townsville, also had several members of his family and a host of school friends in the crowd for the Semi-Final clash with the Cowboys, further pushing his emotional state.
“Our families ride the highs and lows with us as well. A lot of people don’t see that," said Thaiday.
"We’re pretty tough men on the field, but when we get home we sometimes take it out on our family, when we probably shouldn’t, when we take losses home".
It is the second successive year that Brisbane have lost a final to the Cowboys in Extra-Time, and it seems the Maroon wasn’t the only one devastated with defeat.

“Wayne (Bennett) was happy with our efforts, but I think he’s in the same boat as me, he’s just over losing to the Cowboys in the finals.
“I think at the moment we have got a really good team and if we can keep the team together, we’ll have some epic battles going forward".
