In a stunning display of athleticism, Warlpiri 17-year-old Telaya Blacksmith who was raised in the remote community of Lajamanu, emerged as the standout competitor at this year’s Combined NSW Little Athletics and Open Championships.
She claimed multiple titles in a performance that has left both her supporters and competitors in awe.
Blacksmith, a rising star in the world of athletics, dominated the event held over the weekend in Sydney, showcasing her strength, speed, and determination across a variety of disciplines.
Competing against some of the best young athletes from across the state, Ms Blacksmith's performance was nothing short of remarkable, as she secured gold medals in both her age group and the open competition, marking an impressive achievement in her budding athletic career.
The championships, which feature athletes from the NSW Little Athletics program and seasoned open-level competitors, are known for their high level of competition, and Ms Blacksmith faced fierce challenges throughout the event.
However, her unwavering focus and exceptional training paid off as she came first in the 100m sprint with a time of 12.86, first in the 200m sprint with a time of 26.68 and first in the 400m with a time of 59.88.
Ms Blacksmith also placed third in long jump, jumping 4.93 metres.
