The most unique footy program in Australia, Marngrook Footy Show, is celebrating women in AFL and the start of the women’s football league with a special all-female panel on Thursday 1st September.
The women’s only panel will take the reins for the whole show, led by hosts Leila Gurruwiwi and Shelley Ware, who will be joined by West Australian footballer Kirby Bentley, leading Victorian footballer Lauren Arnell, and the Northern Territory’s Abbey Holmes - the first player from a women’s league to kick 100 goals in a season!

Shelley Ware, host, said: “When the AFL announced it was bringing the Women’s League forward by three years, it prompted the media to catch-up too. Being part of this change is truly wonderful and Leila and I are proud to be hosting the first all-female panel on Marngrook.” Host Leila Ware added: “It’s going to be a fantastic program on Thursday, with some of Australia’s best female footballers and experts, ahead of the start of the women’s league next year.”
The inaugural women's league is set to take off in 2017, and the ladies will be joined by the AFL’s first female coach, St Kilda Assistant Coach Peta Searle to discuss this exciting development. Searle will also preview the Hampson-Hardeman Women’s Exhibition match on Saturday 3rd September, as well as the AFL final series.
Both Shelley and Leila are excited to be taking the lead and are sure that with an all female panel there will be a great opportunity for a fresh perspective and different approach to discussion.
"It will be great to have purely a women's perspective on AFL football this week, some of the most passionate football supporters I know are women and wonderful timing as next year is the inaugural women's AFL league competition." says Leila
It will be the first women's AFL panel which is quite remarkable in itself. I'm very much looking forward to hearing the women's stories and their opinions on AFL footy. Shelley and I will also be hosting, which is great feat for us and I hope it allows other young girls out there to follow their dreams and work hard. -Leila Gurruwiwi
In another exclusive, iconic Australian rock band Ol'55, will be performing live on the show ahead of the release of the band’s upcoming special anthology album. Check out the classic clip below.
