Indigenous woman and rugby league pioneer Katrina Fanning could be named the Australian of the Year in January.
Ms Fanning was named the ACT Australian of the Year on Monday night and all four award recipients at a ceremony in Canberra were women.
The 46-year-old chairs the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council and sits on the board of NRL club the Canberra Raiders.
Ms Fanning was named the 2014 Canberra Woman of the Year and is president of the Australian Women's Rugby League Associations.
Disability advocate Sue Salthouse was named the ACT Senior Australian of the Year.
A horse-riding accident left Ms Salthouse in a wheelchair and she has worked for Women with Disabilities Australia (WWDA), advocating for accessible housing and economic security.
The 2015 Canberra Citizen of the Year has also worked with organisations to develop leadership training projects for women and actions to combat domestic violence.
Madeline Diamond, 22, was named the ACT Young Australian of the Year following her work in sustainability.
Ms Diamond founded Trash Mob, a youth-led community group that picks up rubbish monthly and advocates for waste-free solutions.
She is also the executive officer of SEE-Change, a community organisation encouraging Canberrans to live more sustainably.
Foster carer Julia Rollings was named the ACT Local Hero having supported 50 children over two decades.
She was awarded Barnardos ACT Mother of the Year Award in 2009 for her work as a champion for children's rights.
