A woman reluctantly takes on an anonymous, unpaid position with an advice column called Sugar. Unsure of herself at first, she finds a way to weave her life experiences together to help those seeking guidance.

세상 물정에 밝은 21세 소녀 엘시는 사기꾼인 아버지 로버트가 빚 때문에 끔찍한 범죄 조직의 두목에게 쫓긴다는 사실을 알고 아버지를 돕기로 한다. 곧바로 아버지와 화해하기 시작하면서 범죄 파트너가 되어 불안한 업무를 시작한다.
