Without a win in seven games and three points off the play-offs, eighth-placed Brisbane have been short of midfield thrust since the departures and Aiden O’Neill and Brad Inman.
Coach Warren Moon views the former Hamburg man - a free agent after a single season with Robbie Fowler’s East Bengal in the Indian Super League- as an addition who can help halt the recent slide.
Steinmann, 26, was an important presence for Wellington, amassing 24 appearances in 2019-2020 before opting to join ex-Roar boss Fowler at the Kolkata-based club, where he took the field 17 times in the recently completed season.
Steinmann worked his way through Hamburg’s academy, ultimately making 12 Bundesliga appearances.
He also had a spell on loan in the Danish Super League on loan with Vendsyssel FF.
It’s understood Steinmann has agreed terms for the remainder of the A-League season, with Brisbane looking to turn their fortunes around in the 12 remaining games to ensure a spot for June’s finals series.
Brisbane were approached for comment.
