Gallop suggested earlier today that the FFA had contacted Cahill's representatives immediately after finding out the Australia striker's contract at Shanghai Shenhua had been ruthlessly terminated only months after he signed a contract extension.
Gallop said today that Cahill's representatives "made it clear immediately that we could not meet his needs" and that "Tim made it very clear that the A-League was not an option for him, and in any case, the FIFA window was no longer open".
A furious Cahill released a statement on Instagram saying he is "really hurt by some of the things that have been said and written about me today".
Cahill described Gallop's comments as "totally incorrect" and refuted the suggestion he had not spoken to anyone at the FFA about his "needs".
"I have never said that, nor anything like it," Cahill wrote.
"Since my contract was terminated earlier this week, I have not spoken to anyone at the FFA about any contractual terms or about money."
The 36-year-old went on to say that the transfer window's closure is the reason he can't return to the A-League, despite ruling out a return home in the past.
"The most important thing from my point of view is to contribute as much as I possibly can to the Socceroos qualifying for the next World Cup," Cahill continued.
"To do this, I have to be playing regularly. We have crucial games coming up in March
"It's been a tough day having to sit back and read everything but at least now the picture is painted properly."
It is believed Cahill will remain in Asia, either in China or the K-League in Korea.
