The two-time world champion in the time trial is still one of the best in the world against the clock and also showed at the 2020 Giro d'Italia that he could make or break a race as a super-domestique, his efforts on the Stelvio and the Sestriere seeing the rest of the elite climbers left behind as Tao Geoghegan Hart and Jai Hindley separated themselves in the GC battle.
The 31-year-old has won two time trials in 2021, an 18.5-kilometre effort in Volta a Catalunya and the opening prologue at the Tour de Romandie. He will be heading to the Tokyo Olympics with the Australian Cycling Team, his major goal for 2021, and is also expected to be named in the INEOS Grenadiers squad for the Tour de France.
