This is Guarnier's first Giro Rosa victory after coming third in 2015, seventh in 2014 and 15th in 2013. It is her ninth victory of the 2016 season and inarguably the biggest of her career. Guarnier's teammate Evelyn Stevens scored a one-two for the team with second place overall, while Rabo-Liv's Anna van der Breggen was third.

“I can’t believe it. It’s surreal. I really am so happy," said Guarnier.

“My win wouldn’t have been possible without the selfless work of Karol-Ann [Canuel], Amalie [Dideriksen], Christine [Majerus] and Lizzie [Armitstead],” added Guarnier. “In the final days, Karo and Amalie did the work of an entire team.”
Boels-Dolmans have dominated the Giro Rosa, with Guarnier also winning the points classification. Evelyn Stevens snagged multiple stage wins en route to second overall, and Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team won the team classification.

The final stage of the Giro Rosa was won by Thalita de Jong, who attacked from a large breakaway that went away early in the stage. Guarnier rolled in with the peloton two minutes after the stage winner.

Guarnier will now target the Olympic road race in Rio next month.
