As a race with a history dating back to 1933, Paris-Nice holds a special place in the road cycling calendar. The first of the big one-week World Tour races, the event is also known as the "Race to the Sun" as the peloton starts in wintry northern France before heading south down towards the Mediterranean coast.
Wild weather can influence the racing, with crosswinds and freezing cold conditions at times affecting the winner of the race. However, it is the mountains that usually determine who stands atop the podium in Nice, with great climbers of the present generation and yesteryear adorning the honour roll.
Two-time Tour de France champion, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) has been on some mixed form to start the season, and will face his sternest test to date for 2025 as he faces the likes of Grand Tour podium-getter Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), and rising stars Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) and Mattias Skejlmose (Lidl-Trek) though he will have defending champion Mateo Jorgenson by his side.
Australian Lucas Plapp (Jayco-AlUla) will be back in action as well, at the race where he wore yellow for , finishing sixth overall. He will be joined by another Australian to wear yellow, having the lead in the 2021, 2016 and 2015 editions of Paris-Nice.
All stages will be airing live on SBS and SBS On Demand with Stage 1 starting in the late hours of Sunday evening, March 9 (AEDT).
