Top contenders Primoz Roglic, Jai Hindley (both BORA-hansgrohe), and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal QuickStep) will be on the startline, each with their own barrier to overcome in the leadup to the race.
Roglic and Evenepoel were both involved in a horror crash at the Itzulia Basque Country race which saw a number of riders sidelined for long periods of time, with both the Slovenian and the Belgian rider not racing since.
Defending Vuelta a Espana champion Sepp Kuss (Visma–Lease a Bike) is also expected to contest the leader’s jersey, as are the promising Spanish duo of Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) and Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos Grenadiers).
Grand Tour winner Tao Geoghegan Hart (Lidl–Trek) will also be in the mix at the stage race, followed closely by fellow contenders David Gaudu (Groupama–FDJ), Guillaume Martin (Cofidis), Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) and Felix Gall (Decathlon–AG2R La Mondiale).
