Luke’s claim comes after Johnson opened up the NBL season with an incredible three game stretch that saw him score 29, 33 and 19 points respectively.
“He is the most underrated NBL superstar of the decade,” Luke said.
“When we broke down the numbers 12 months ago, he was at the top. Of course there is that narrative around whether he should play more (for the) Boomers… the fact is, even on the weekend, we’re talking more about (Josh) Giddey.
“Isaac Humphries played really well and I think (he) will only get better, but they won that game in particular because of Daniel Johnson’s first half.
“It almost works perfectly with the narrative around his career - we talk about other people more than the fact that he opened NBL21 in the way he did.
“He is, in my mind, the most underrated superstar this league has had for the decade.”
Luke’s co-host Liam Santamaria echoed the praise for the 32-year-old from Western Australia.
“He was incredible,” Santamaria said. “67% he scored those 60 points (in the first two games) from the field, 19 of 21 from the free-throw line - in year 13. He's just been great for so long and continuing to get it done.”
Former NBL MVP, Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams, pointed out that while he was great at scoring, he needed to improve his rebounding.
“Offensively he was great. I need more rebounds. I need you to average a double-double this year. That’s my challenge for you. 10+ rebounds a match.”
The 36ers are 1-2 after three matches and will take on the New Zealand Breakers on Friday night - which you can watch LIVE, FREE and in HD on SBS on Demand.
