Jumbo-Visma names 2020 Tour de France team

Primoz Roglic, Steven Kruijswijk and new recruit Tom Dumoulin will lead a heavy hitting GC team at the 2020 Tour de France, Jumbo-Visma revealed at their team presentation overnight.

The Dutch WorldTour team made the rare move to outline its grand tour plans before the new season is even underway in a bid to be all-in for the Tour de France arms race against major rival Team Ineos.

Jumbo-Visma is opting for a let-the-road-decide triumvirate of Roglic, Kruijswijk and Dumoulin the team believes is the 'strongest possible' option to ward-off similar tridents brandished by Ineos.

Adhering to the 'you can't focus on sprints and on GC' adage, they will also leave sprinter Dylan Groenewegen at home. With sprint opportunities at the 2020 Tour de France limited anyway, the Dutchman will line-up for the Giro, Vuelta and Milan-Sanremo instead.

Barring injury or form, Wout van Aert, Tony Martin, Laurens De Plus, Sepp Kuss and Robert Gesink will steer Roglic, Kruijswijk and Dumoulin around France.
“The goal is definitely to win the Tour," Dumoulin said. "Full on, with three leaders!"
"It was very nice to find out that all three of us are on the same page.”

Third-place at this year's Tour de France, Kruijswijk agreed.

“We want to win the Tour as a team. You do that with the strongest riders possible. Look at who we can line up, with Tom, Primoz and myself as leaders. I think we can fight with these guys." the Dutchman said.

2019 Vuelta champion Vuelta winner Roglic said it's all-in for the Tour in 2020. “Our goal is to win the Tour. I want to be part of that. I definitely want to be in that team”, he said.
Kiwi George Bennett will lead the Giro d'Italia while Kruijswijk will also back up for the Vuelta. Roglic and Dumoulin will also get a chance to crack the Amstel Gold and Ardennes classics and Wout van Aert the spring cobbles.

"We have to go to the Tour with the strongest possible team," Jumbo-Visma director Merijn Zeeman said.

"Then we’ll have a chance to win. We’re going to do everything we can to conquer the yellow. We are very happy, proud and motivated to do so. I also think the supporters of Team Jumbo-Visma will think this is really cool.”
