Pogačar hails 'complete' 2022 Tour de France course

Defending Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar believes next year’s instalment has everything the sport’s diverse range of riders could ask for.

SBS will air both the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes LIVE, FREE and in HD in 2022.

Pogačar was present in Paris for the event’s route presentation and confirmed it would take a “complete” rider to reign supreme on the Champs-Elysees.

“It’s pretty great. It’s a complete course,” Pogačar said.

“From the first stage to the last stage, we have everything: sprints, echelons, cobbles, big climbs, small climbs, time trials.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll do some recons because it will be necessary after we saw what’s on the plan. I’m pretty excited.”

The route for the 109th edition of the Tour features five mountaintop finishes and two individual time trials totalling 53 kilometres, as well as the cobblestones present at Paris-Roubaix.

Such cobble-covered terrain will be a first for the 23-year-old, who will have to navigate that part of northern France for the first time in his career.

Nevertheless, the Slovenian remains a strong favourite to continue his back-to-back dominance of the three-week event and will look to the time trials to cement his status once again.
