Roglič was one of many who were brought down in the mass fall after 40 kilometres of racing, with the Slovenian remounting swiftly and seemingly only suffering superficial injuries.
The Tour de France fourth place-getter from last year was in a joking mood, despite giving up the race lead and taking off some skin from his right buttock in the fall.
"I was there and couldn’t go anywhere, I hit my big ass and luckily it’s just that," Roglič said after the stage. “Normally, everything should be OK.
"Today the break was too strong and we would have spent too much energy to bring it back, so we let the jersey go.
"But the most important thing is who will have the leader’s jersey in Verona. And it's also OK because it’s a really long race and also having the jersey cost us quite a lot."
Roglič conceded the pink jersey to Valerio Conti (UAE Team Emirates) whose best general classification finish in a Grand Tour was his 24th place in last year's Giro d"Italia.
Australian Robert Power (Team Sunweb) was less fortunate than Roglič and had to abandon the race after injuries sustained in the fall.
"This is a really disappointing day," said Power. "I would have loved to continue. I went down hard in the big crash and tried to keep riding but had to pull out with lot of pain in my hip. Luckily there is nothing broken but I’m still really disappointed to leave the Giro.”
“Fortunately x-rays show no breaks or fractures for Robert," said Team Sunweb physician Stephan Jacolino. "He has overstretched his gluteal muscle, which meant that he was unable to push on the pedals anymore and it was too painful for him to continue. After a week’s rest it’s likely he will be able to restart training normally.”
Laurens Ten Dam (CCC) was the only other rider who failed to finish Stage 6.
