The Aussie sprinter impressively finished off a strong lead out by her team mates, firing up the rockets after the last rider in her Mitchelton-Scott train Moniek Tenniglo swung away, to hold off Maria Martins (Sopela), Marta Lach (CCC-Liv) and Roxane Fournier (Movistar) in the final 150 metres for the win.
The win comes after a busy season, the 33-year-old working tirelessly for the team since the Tour Down Under in January with some time off racing in late June before a successful Giro Rosa.
“The girls nailed it," Roy said. "Jess (Allen) did a killer turn leading into the hill two kilometres from the finish and Georgia (Williams) took over for the first part of the hill even after her time in the break.
"Alex (Manly) was super strong all the way over it with Gracie (Elvin) on her wheel keeping us all calm. I had Moniek on my wheel taking care of all the turbulence behind me and in the last 900-metres she put the hammer down!”

“I looked around and saw Roxane (Fournier) approaching my wheel so I started my sprint early," Roy said. "I’m glad the line wasn’t any further away! I could have waited a little longer but I’m so happy to cross the line first and for the team and (the DSs) and our soigneurs to get to celebrate a little win - they all deserve it so much!"
After little action in the opening 50 kilometres, a nine-rider break finally got away with the major teams CCC-Liv, Ale Cipollini, Movistar all represented including Williams for Mitchelton-Scott. With one lap to go on the circuit in town, the escapees' still held 33 seconds but this quickly evaporated once the pack had them in their sights on the run into the finish.
