It wasn't as good of a day for Toby Price, as he and teammate Sam Sunderland wound up having to push their Overdrive Racing Toyota through the finish zone after an electronic failure.

The delay saw them given a 2 minute time penalty on the stage, officially finishing 12th and 5 minutes and 58 seconds behind winners Seth Quintero and Dennis Zenz (Toyota Gazoo), which also becomes their general classification position.

In the Rally 2 category, Australian Toby Hederics (BAS World KTM Racing) finished Stage 1 in 12th spot, 14 minutes and 34 seconds behind winning teammate Tobias Ebster.
With prologue times added in the bikes category, Hederics is 15th overall at 15 minutes and 38 seconds down on top spot heading into Stage 2.

Andrew Houlihan (Nomadas Adventure) completed his first full stage in the Original by Motul class in 16th place, an hour and 29 minutes behind the fastest time.

And brothers Peter and Christopher Schey came in 43rd in the Classic Dakar category.

The Dakar Rally will continue with Stage 2, a mammoth 48 hour Chrono stage spanning 967 kilometres of desert racing. Watch highlights tomorrow and the day after early morning on SBS On Demand or in the evening from 5pm AEDT on SBS.
