Scarponi laid to rest in Filottrano

Thousands of mourners turned out on Tuesday for the funeral of Michele Scarponi as the Astana rider was laid to rest in his hometown of Filottrano.

The Italian cyclist died last Saturday in a collision with a van during a training near Filottrano on 22 April. Scarponi, 37, was preparing to lead Astana at the 2017 Giro d'Italia next month. He was buried in his Astana team colours.
