After the USWNT won their fourth FIFA Women's World Cup with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands in the final, there has been growing calls for the team to be awarded equal pay.
Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, decided to join in the debate on Wednesday morning (AEST).
"Food for thought. Shout out to the USA Women's Soccer Team for their fourth World Cup, but what I want to talk about is they only get $90,000 per player, but the men — if they win, they get $500,000 per player,” the rapper said.
“Sorry ass f--king men from the U.S. team may never win sh-t, ain't ever win sh-t, can't even get out the f--king first round.
“Man, pay them ladies, man. Pay the girls what they're worth.
"The women should be getting $500,000 per athlete. Snoop Dogg says so.
“Yeah, I'm rocking with that. Them girls have won four World Cups and $90,000? Man, please. Play them $500,000 a piece."
Snoop's comments come after player of the tournament Megan Rapinoe used her post-match interviews to insist on better pay and conditions.
"Everyone is ready for this conversation to move to the next step," she said.
"We're done with 'Are we worth it. Should we have equal pay?'
"Everyone is done with that. Fans are done with that. Players are done with that. In a lot of ways, sponsors are done with that.
"Every player at this World Cup, we put on the most incredible show that you could ever ask for.
"We couldn't do anything more ... let's get to the next point."
At the end of the final, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, was roundly booed as he stepped up to award medals to the finalists, which gave way to loud chants for equal pay.
Rapinoe said Infantino could handle the embarrassment.
"A little public shame never hurt anybody, right? I'm down with the boos," she said.
