Storer just recently claimed the final stage win and overall victory at the Tour de l'Ain, and had double reason to celebrate as it was also confirmed that he would have a contract for next season.
Groupama-FDJ have signed the West Australian to a deal that concludes at the end of the 2023 season, with the Australian looking to continue his progression as a rider as a part of the team's strong stage-racing core.
“I am a climber, and I want to keep improving in this role with the team," said Storer. "I recently won my first professional race, and personally I hope to also win at the WorldTour level one day.
"I like to win, but helping others succeed in the biggest races is also very motivating for me. The team has high ambitions and I want to do my best to help achieve them next year."
Storer will come into a team that boasts Thibaut Pinot and David Gaudu as leaders, with Storer's performances behind Gaudu at the 2020 Vuelta at least part of the reason that he attracted the attention of the French team.
“Michael Storer is a pure climber, a model teammate able to stay with his leaders for a long time,” said Groupama-FDJ directeur sportif Yvon Madiot. "This year, he supported Romain Bardet in all the important moments of the Giro. During David Gaudu's two victories in the Vuelta, Michael was in the breakaway, he is a very good climber, we needed a rider like him in the group."
Storer came into the professional ranks as a fresh-faced 20-year-old four years ago, but has matured to the point where he's consistently having an impact at the important moments in races.
The West-Australian's next race will be the Vuelta a Espana, lining up alongside fellow Aussie Chris Hamilton at the Spanish Grand Tour with Team DSM.
Groupama-FDJ also announced the signing of French climber Quentin Pacher form B&B Hotels.
