A documentary is being made about Drag Race's first openly transgender queen

Peppermint is the first openly trans woman to be cast for 'RuPaul's Drag Race'. She's gunning for the crown, and a documentary crew has been filming her the whole way through.

The current season of RuPaul's Drag Race is soon coming to a close, with the grand finale airing in Australia on June 23rd.

Season 9 has made some crucial changes, some good, and some that have proved rather unpopular. However, this season also welcomed the first openly transgender woman cast on the show.

Peppermint, a 37-year-old queen from New York City, is *SPOILER* in the top four, and learns in less than a fortnight if she's nabbed the crown.

No matter if she takes the title of 'Next Drag Superstar' or not - Peppermint has made her mark on drag history herstory simply by appearing on the show.

It's recently been announced that a bold new documentary on Peppermint's life, transition, and appearance on Drag Race is coming soon, currently titled 'Project Peppermint'.

Director Oriel Pe'er and his team have filmed Peppermint for around a year now, so the doco will include footage from her time on RuPaul's Drag Race, and will also feature footage of Peppermint having and recovering from Gender Confirmation Surgery.

The film's director, Oriel Pe’er, has also to help with the final leg of creating the doco. Up until this point, the project has been completely personally financed, and the filmmaking team now needs assistance with final filming, and costly post-production expenses.

"The project has been self-financed from the moment we started filming," says Pe'er. "We were really passionate about telling this story, and couldn't waste any time finding financing without missing out on filming crucial events. For the sake of keeping the documentary as true to reality as possible, we refused any financial donations from Peppermint herself."

The first trailer has now been released for the documentary - you can watch it below:
