Trans, non-binary actor and model Indya Moore has graced the cover of Vogue India, having previously appeared on the cover of both Vogue Italia and Teen Vogue.
The 25-year-old star of FX series Pose opened up about being put into the foster care system at the age of 14 because of their parents’ transphobia.
“From living in survival mode, I have a set of experiences that I think are helpful to share on behalf of my community with the world, that form the way that I advocate for myself and people like me. But I still feel like I don’t have the grace to be human,” the Emmy-nominated actor shared.
“I find myself in a position where I have to always be vulnerable and share parts of myself," the star continued.
"That makes people have too much access to me in a way that doesn’t feel safe. There’s so much that I am trying to learn and figure out, and in such a small amount of time.”
Moore, who recently modelled in Rhianna's second Savage X Fenty show, also shared some of the ways they've been practicing self-care during such a trying year.
“These days I feel like I’ve been enjoying playing video games,” they told Vogue, “It’s very low energy, and very low energy activities help me to unlayer some of the shit that I carry every day. I am really working very hard to heal.”
The star celebrated the cover story on social media, using the moment to advocate for others in the community, including Indian-American trans writer and performance artist .
"Thank you so much everyone!! This was a dream," Moore wrote in a post on Instagram.
"Thank you a million times Vogue India, for seeing me, leaning further & choosing to uplift me. My wish is for everyone to let our communities in, everywhere."
"Let's get a trans Indian person on the cover!" They continued. "I would love to see @alokmenonsell it!"
