Keanu Reeves' girlfriend, Los Angeles-based artist Alexandra Grant, has taken to social media to defend her grey hair.

Explaining that she went grey in her early twenties, 46-year-old Grant revealed that she tried to fight the ageing process for years, before deciding that she "couldn't tolerate" the toxicity of permanent dyes anymore.

Grant, who uses painting, drawing, sculpture and video in her artistic practice, then shared a new study published in the which links permanent hair dyes with an increased risk for breast cancer in women.

“Wow. Today's news... The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of colour,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I went gray prematurely in my early 20s... and dyed my hair every colour along the way until I couldn't tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more. In my 30s I let my hair turn ‘blonde’."

“I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age," Grant added.

"But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards... then let's talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!”

Grant and Reeves have this year, with fans celebrating a Hollywood man bucking the trend of dating much younger women (Grant is still younger than 55-year-old Reeves, though).

Before becoming an item, the pair collaborated on two art books together.
