A social enterprise beer company has launched a limited-edition pale ale that’s all about supporting marriage equality in Australia.
The Good Beer Co. has teamed up with Victoria’s Bright Brewery and the ‘Yes’ campaign to support the LGBT+ community, with all profits donated to Marriage Equality Australia.
The specially brewed craft beer—Love²—was launched in Brisbane this week and is now available at bars and breweries all over the country.
Couple Anne and Fiona of Woody Point in Queensland attended the launch, saying they were hopeful that—after five years together—they’d soon be able to wed without having to travel overseas.
“This is about having the same opportunity that other people in other countries already have,” said Fiona.
The pair said the Love² project was an “awesome idea” and that “businesses really should be getting involved in social causes like this”.

Peter Black, of the Australian Marriage Equality Campaign—who also attended the launch—told the crowd that he hoped the new ale would start some conversations about the ongoing marriage equality postal survey and LGBT+ rights in the country.
“We’re in the midst of historic campaign here. We want people to talk to their mates, their work colleagues, their teammates about marriage equality and what better way than to do that with a Love² beer!
“If we win this postal survey, we’ll be able to toast this beer at hundreds and thousands of gay weddings,” Black said.
