You know Hollywood is falling a tad short in the representation department when a two-minute car commercial manages to whip social media into a frenzy.
French company Renault has released a new advertisement for its Renault Clio car, which the company claims has been “30 years in the making.”
However, this isn't your usual car ad. Set to a romantic cover of 'Wonderwall' by Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne, the commercial is essentially a powerful two-minute lesbian love story set over three decades - and people are really loving it.
"I can’t believe a car commercial making me cry like a baby," another added.
According to , the ad, titled 'The French Exchange', was created by advertising agency Publicis.Poke, and is airing internationally in 30-second, one-minute and two-minute versions.
It tells the story of two girls who meet during a 1990s exchange program and manage to maintain a close relationship over the following years, until they're forced to admit their strong feelings for each other. It then shows a glimpse of the life they build for themselves.
And, dear reader, it is beautiful.
"Renault brings people’s passion for life a little closer through our cars," Adam Wood, Renault UK’s marketing director, told Campaign.
"We wanted to humanise and celebrate not just 30 years of progress of the Renault Clio, but also the progress made within culture, society and life in that time."
Attention marketing executives - more like this, please!
