We have the latest intel on what’s next for the zany (and brave) cops of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
A cop cliffhanger

The chilling warning was issued by crime kingpin Seamus Murphy (Paul Adelstein, Prison Break) to Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) back when we left the Nine-Nine in the mid-season finale. Let’s just say Murphy was less than pleased after detectives Jake (Andy Samberg) and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) used Seamus’s dim-bulb of a nephew, Kyle (Mike Mitchell, Love), to foil the mobster’s armoured truck heist, worth a whopping $US20 million in bonds.
Earlier, Seamus had blackmailed Holt with a recording of the captain asking the Mob boss for the intel that exonerated Jake and Detective Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) earlier in the season after they were set up by Lt Melanie Hawkins (Gina Gershon) for orchestrating a bank robbery. Seamus wanted a permit for a block party fast-tracked, a ruse to attack the armoured van, and if he didn’t get it, the recording could be exposed, threatening Holt’s chances of becoming commissioner.
If only everyone had listened to Jake in the first place and they’d “developed a Minority Report-style pre-crime division”, they wouldn’t have been in this “Seamus mess”. Not only was Kyle now on Murphy’s hit list, but so was Holt’s beloved professor hubby, Kevin (Marc Evan Jackson, The Good Place), as well.
The bodyguard

“It’s my time to tit. It’s my tit turn. My time to tit is today, Terry” says Jake. (You’ll just have to tune in to see what exactly this seemingly saucy, alliterative Peralta-ism means).
But the odd couple of academic and joker could be together for as long as two months while the organised crime division gathers enough evidence to nick Seamus.
That means Nick Cage action DVDs, no phone and… fake moustaches? Jake and Kevin get some respite from the safe house by very unwisely masquerading as perverts at a public library.
And coming up… Rosa will get a (different?) girlfriend
In season 5B, we’ll meet Rosa’s (Stephanie Beatriz) girlfriend. But is it the same one she spoke to on the phone prior to coming out? Source: SBS
Beatriz has a lofty wish list of who she’d like to play Rosa’s ladylove – or should that be “loves”?
“I just read a script for next week’s table read that’s got some really exciting possibilities for Rosa and her lady friends,” she Entertainment Weekly. “Love Gina Rodriguez, and think she would be fantastic. Katie McKinnon, would love to kiss Kate McKinnon. Those are probably the top two for me. Then, in an imaginary dream world, it would be [Jennifer Lopez]. I feel like J.Lo and Rosa would make a great couple – but not Jennifer Lopez the actress, like the real J.Lo, with J.Lo playing J.Lo.”
And interrogation is about to get real
'This Is Us' Emmy Award winner Sterling K Brown guests stars this season as a crim in what promises to be an intense episode. Source: NBC
“It’s an episode that takes place completely in the interrogation room and its surroundings,” Goor TVLine. “It’s one story [featuring] just Jake, Holt and Sterling K Brown, and it’s really intense and really funny. It’s like a one-act play.”
It’s going to be a bumper tail-end to season five. Oh, and Jake and Detective Amy (Melissa Fumero) will finally get hitched.
