Crime-solving psychotherapist Dr Susannah Newman returns, and this time, she's out of her depth. When Jon, a mysterious new patient, admits under hypnosis he kills women and intends on killing a girl that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs. Jon escapes and Susannah contacts the police and her former lover, DSI Richard Groves. But when Richard, with the support of his wife Natasha, refuses to take action on the matter, Susannah is forced to save the girl on her own. Ben Field forms a relationship with his former teacher Peter Farquhar, preying on his newfound feelings of isolation during his retirement. As Ben and Peter’s relationship progresses, Peter begins to worry that he is becoming sick with a mysterious and frightening illness after he experiences a hallucination during a lecture. Together they conclude that alcohol might be behind his sudden decline, but when Peter is discovered dead on his couch, questions about the nature of his connection to Ben arise.
