Episode 9: Breaking Point

Alone Australia Ep9 Recap (1).jpg

Gina Chick and Darren Mara recording episode 9 of Alone Australia: The Podcast

We're reaching the business end of this season of Alone Australia. The remaining participants are battening down, ready to tough out the cold, or hitting their breaking point. Gina and Darren discuss how they're each coping as we head into the finale. Then one of the participants joins us to reflect on all the extreme triumphs, physical and emotional struggles, and tough ethical choices they faced in the wilderness. Finally, we turn the spotlight on Gina to ask the questions you've been emailing in for her. Warning: This episode contains spoilers for Alone Australia season 2 episode 9. Make sure you've watched it before listening.

After 50-plus days in the wilderness with little in the way of food, Gina and Darren discuss the effects of starvation on all the remaining participants, and the cost vs benefit of their food gathering efforts.

After recapping episode nine of Alone Australia season 2, Gina chats with Tamika about building her amazing shelter, the resilience of mothers, becoming a poster girl for bodily fluids, and the emotional journey she went through in the wilderness.
I can remember wanting to tap out but I was still in turmoil and nothing made sense. I was just frigging starving and vulnerable and mixed up. 99% of the time, I had the most epic and marvellous time. But when you see those big episodes, you go, 'Oh my God, she's a wreck'. And I was.

Thanks to the listeners who have been emailing us each week with awesome questions and feedback. There have been lots of behind the scenes ‘bananas’ that we can't talk about, many insightful questions that Gina and Darren have put to the season 2 participants, and also a bunch for Gina herself. So after her 1-on-1 with Tamika, producer Max puts Gina back in the hot seat to answer your questions in a special AMA (ask me anything).
