This is one way to promote your love of pie - get it in the record books.

That's exactly what the creative organisers behind  in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Omer Isovic and Faruk Sahovic, set out to do yesterday, as they presented the world's biggest burek.

“Burek, as the typical BiH [Bosnia and Herzegovina] product and recognizable part of our gastronomic offer, this is an ideal opportunity to represent BiH in the world, as well as to turn our domestic public’s attention towards domestic products and domestic producers,” Isovic tells the .

In Bosnia and through the Balkan region, pita is the broad term for pastry of the sweet and savoury variety and burek there specifically refers to the meat-filled version.
There were 14 people involved in the making and cooking of this pie and it comes as no surprise as you get an idea of how big it actually was. Using 1500 sheets of filo pastry and weighing in at a whopping 650 kg, this 6x6 metre pie was certainly planning on being a showstopper as a special crane had to deliver the burek to the town's square.
Once the record formalities were out of the way, it was up to the locals to enjoy as they served up the massive pie alongside 1500 cevapi sausages on a large lepinja (a traditional flatbread), which has also been entered into the  attempt. This is one high achieving food festival aiming for two records in the one day.

It will take three months for the Bosnians to find out if their efforts were enough to get the records and we're sure if they needed to do it again the town probably wouldn't object.
