For years, the labels 'left' and 'right' have been used to describe where political parties sit. But are they still useful?


Senior lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of the Sunshine Coast Dr Shannon Brincat said the terms are a good way to get a broad picture and understanding of ideological differences.

But I would always suggest going deeper to ensure that the policies of a particular party that you may vote for do align with what you actually want politics to achieve over the next three or four years.
