The Senate hearing on Foreign Affairs tackled the events surrounding former President Duterte’s arrest and currently under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Duterte is currently facing case of crimes against humanity.

  • Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stressed that the warrant of arrest was issued March 11, 3:00 am and that no talks have taken place prior to the issuance of the warrant.
  • Vice President Sara Duterte stressed that his father’s arrest was illegal.
  • Vice President Duterte says that his father’s arrest was implemented under extraordinary rendition as there was no warrant of arrest issued by a Philippine Court.
  • Justice Secretary Remulla explained that the ICC had no jurisdiction in the Philippines as a sovereign state, but it had jurisdiction under the International Humanitarian Law that is recognised by more than 150 countries, including the Philippines.
