“Repacking for Greece: A Mediterranean Odyssey” is the second book in which South African born Australian author Sally Jane Smith travels to Hellas, which has "become so close to her heart”.


The author has “an amusing and insightful look at the country” and she “immerses us Greece’s awe-inspiring landscapes and fascinating heritage sites”.

In her own words she “delights in absorbing the country’s rich history and connecting the dots between legend, location and contemporary literature”.

The destinations include: Athens and Delphi on the mainland; Nafplio, Mycenae, Epidavros and Methana on the Peloponnese Peninsula; and the islands of Hydra, Poros, Kefalonia and Corfu.

The first book was titled Unpacking for Greece: Travel in a Land of Fortresses, Fables, Ferries and Feta”. The destinations were Athens and Meteora on the mainland; Monemvasia, Sparta and Methana on the Peloponnese Peninsula; and the islands of Santorini and Rhodes.

In this interview to SBS Greek the Central Coast author tells us what inspired her for the writings, explains why travelling to Greece was an experience of life-changing journey, elaborates on what fascinated her most of the country, shares some of the memorable encounters and stories from her travels in Greece, particularises on the differences and similarities between the two books, and reveals if there is going to be a third book!
