Hit-and-run driver Puneet Puneet's attempt to get the extradition trial cancelled, has been unsuccessful.

On Monday, Puneet Puneet's lawyer Kanhaiya Singhal said they had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the ongoing extradition trial in the lower court.

On Tuesday, Mr Singhal told the court there was “no authentic proof provided by Australian Authorities that Puneet was convicted there in same case, so in absence of that whole trial is illegal”,  reports.

However, the Delhi High Court dismissed Puneet’s petition to cancel the ongoing extradition trial in Patiala Court.

“At this stage I decline to interfere in the ongoing trial proceeding at Lower court” the High Court Judge said.

Puneet Puneet was limping when he appeared at New Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday where the extradition case came up for hearing.

The Judge hearing his extradition case was replaced recently and the Monday hearing ended with the replaced Justice Gurmohini Kaur deciding to examine the claim Puneet is suffering from schizophrenia, kidney and liver problems and multiple other ailments at the next hearing on November 24,  reports.

Justice Kaur said she needed time to read the 2000 page file.

Puneet's laywer, Mr Singhal said he will be providing medical records and will get doctors to demonstrate in court that Puneet was gravely ill.

He is due to appear at Patiala Court again on November 24.
