Shah Rukh Khan kicks off 2019 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

Melbourne is oozing with Indian film stars this week.

Bollywood’s biggest film star Shah Rukh Khan is in town for the 2019 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

The festival officially kicks off officially on Thursday night with the Awards Night where Shah Rukh Khan will be the chief guest and will be accompanied by other film stars like Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Simi Garewal among others.

The renowned Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform a special ode to Shah Rukh Khan with Bollywood playback artist and composer – Amaal Malik.

Assamese film – Bulbul can sing will be shown on the opening night of the festival on Friday.

The film is about Bulbul, a young girl, living in a village in Assam, India, fighting her way through love and loss as she figures out who she really is.

The opening night will be attended by film’s director Rima Das and festival’s chief guest Shah Rukh Khan.

The festival has also organised the traditional flag hoisting ceremony at Melbourne’s Federation Square on Saturday morning.

One of India’s biggest and famous film producer, director and talk show host Karan Johar will be hoisting the Indian flag followed by Bollywood dance competition at the same venue.
Film fans will also get a chance to hear their favourite film stars discuss aspects of film making and the future of cinema at the IFFM Chats.

India’s noted film critic Rajeev Masand will talk to Director Sriram Raghavan and Tabu about the film, Andhadhun followed by a chat on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai film’s 20 years with Producer and Director Karan Johar.

The tenth edition of the festival will close with the Victorian Premiere of Gurinder Chadha’s ground-breaking film ‘Blinded by the Light’ on August 17.
