Aglianico is a grape variety that is grown mainly between Basilicata and Campania, explains Sommelier Piero Fonseca.

Most likely, this grape variety was brought to the area during the Spanish invasion, although the sources on the subject are not certain.

  • Aglianico is a red grape variety that is grown mainly in Basilicata and Campania.
  • This variety is now also cultivated in California and in Australia.
  • It goes perfectly with meat dishes and braised meats.

This grape produces a rich and very fruity red wine that goes well with dishes such as grilled meat, polenta with braised meat or other traditional northern Italian dishes cooked especially during the cold winter months.
Although Aglianico is a native variety of southern Italy, we can now find it also in California and Australia and especially in the Griffith area of New South Wales, but also in some areas north of Melbourne.
Residents in metropolitan Melbourne are subject to stay-at-home orders and can only leave home for food and essential supplies, work, study, exercise or care responsibilities. People are also advised to wear masks in public.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits.

If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, stay home and arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.
