ACT Liberals’ Elizabeth Lee becomes the first Asian leader of major political parties in Australia.

Korean-Australian politician Ms Elizabeth Lee was elected Leader of the Canberra Liberals and became Leader of the Opposition of the Australian Capital Territory.


Ms Elizabeth Lee is the first Korean-Australian politician elected to state and territory governments in Australia.

She has been a Liberal member of the ACT Legislative Assembly since 2016, representing the electorate of Kurrajong.

In the election last month, Ms Lee successfully retained her seat and became the new Opposition leader

The 41-year-old working mum wrote another history by becoming the first Asian leader of major political parties in Australia. 

Ms Lee was born in Korea and moved to Australia in 1986 at the age of seven.  

Before entering politics, Ms Lee was a lawyer and a lecturer in ANU.

Ms Lee talks to SBS Korean program about how she will lead the Canberra Liberals and how’s her life like as an Asian female politician and a working mum with a young child.
