Dr Hyung A Kim pointed out the recent decline in public support for the Moon Jae-in’s government is due not only to the volatile nature of South Korea’s democracy but also the growing backlash against their attempts to abuse power.

Middle Eastern news network Al Jazeera, one of the most influential media in the world recently published a column written by Associate Professor of the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University Hyung-A Kim.

The column headlined ‘Abuse of power has become the norm in Moon’s South Korea’ was immediately attracted attention from media in Korea.

Some supporters of South Korea’s president Moon Jae-in may not fully agree with the column.

However, the Korean born scholar who has been researching Korean politics over 25 years in Australia tells SBS Korean program she doesn’t think about backlash or social reactions when she writes, but always try to write the most academically responsible writing.
