Seven armed men have looted Rs 1.18 crore from a bank cash van at Manak Rai village. The cash van is believed to be that of HDFC bank.
has reported that the unidentified men came on three motorcycles and a car and forced the cash van to stop. The van was carrying Rs 2.16 crore to be loaded in 14 ATMs in rural areas. The staff had already loaded some cash in eight ATM when they were looted.
It is said that one robber was driving a white Tata Indigo with a broken registration and the other six were riding bikes. There were two bank employees, two security guards and a driver in the cash van.
The robbers took the occupants of the cash van to an abandoned car washing centre and fled with cash towards Adampur. Hindustan Time also reported that the staff tried to call the police headquarters but no one responded. They had to ask for a woman’s help who later called the police station.
It is understood that later, a police team in Kartarpur Cheema village tried to stop a white Indigo car, suspected to have been used in the crime, the car sped away. After a chase of 4 km, the police fired at the car and one bullet hit the driver. He has been identified as Ranjit Singh. He was rushed to hospital where he is still unconscious.
