The family and friends of a 31-year-old Tamworth man who died after reportedly suffering a sudden heart attack on Sunday cannot believe they have lost their “gentleman” son and buddy.
Father of three young children aged 7, 4 and 2, Gurpreet Singh Sidhu was pronounced dead at around 5 pm on Sunday, two days after he had suffered an attack in his sleep at his house in the wee hours on Friday.
The alarm was raised by his wife when she noticed that Mr Sidhu seemed "disoriented and unresponsive" when she got up to feed their 2–year-old son at around 2 am.
Within a few minutes, a team of paramedics arrived at the scene and succeeded in reviving Mr Singh after nearly 45 minutes. He was then rushed to the Tamworth Base hospital where he was pronounced dead after being kept on life support for two days. Originally from Punjab, Mr Sidhu was a full-time taxi driver who is described as a “loving” and an “exceptionally kind” human being by his close friend Sandeep Singh who was the last among friends to see him alive.

“I had just dropped him home a few hours ago and he was absolutely fine,” said Mr Singh, who used to spend most part of his day with Mr Sidhu.
“My heart goes to his three young kids who’d never get to see their father again who was an extremely humble and a kind gentleman.” Concerned for his three young children and family back in Punjab for whom Gurpreet was the sole earner, his friends have started a fundraiser on Facebook to assist them in carrying out his last rites.

The crowdfunding total has already topped $20,000 in just two days.
Whilst his mother and sister were in Tamworth at the time of his death, his father has been informed and is on his way to Australia.
