Streets in the beach-side suburb of Glenelg in Adelaide were blanketed by plumes of thick smoke after a fire broke out in a famous Indian restaurant just after 1 PM on Thursday.

Fire crews arrived at the Indian Spice Restaurant minutes after the incident to find the Mosley Square Building which houses the food joint well alight.
It took 40 fire fighters 15 minutes to control the blaze, which is believed to have started in the office of the restaurant on the second floor.

At the time of the incident, smoke could be seen billowing from floors above the restaurant, some of it even escaping into the adjoining businesses.

Although there were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the fire, there were at least two employees including the chef who managed to safely escape the building.

According to the South Australian Metropolitan Fire service, the fire which caused an estimated $300,000 in damages was accidental and may have been the result of an electric fault in the restaurant's office area.
The restaurant was opened in July 2015.
