Lamborghini has always had a place in the hearts of the Indian car lovers, but now it seems it’s fast moving into their garages.

And when it comes to top-stuff, Ludhiana city in the northern state of Punjab hardly ever misses a spot. You’d soon spot gas-guzzling sports cars that cost upwards of $600,000 in the city’s Samrala chowk if you haven’t already.

The Italian makers of the luxury machine claim it is witnessing an expanded demand from cities other than Delhi and Mumbai, particularly for its recently launched SUV Urus, which is more compatible with India’s notoriously potholed roads.

Lamborghini’s India head, Sharad Agarwal told Times of India that the demand has been quite robust not only from metro cities but also from smaller cities like Ludhiana, Kanpur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat and Hubli.

The company, part of Germany's Volkswagen group, which retails cars from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru is hoping that the fillip from the non-niche market will double their India sales by the end of this year. The sports car major clocked a sales figure of 45 units last year, 18 more than what it had retailed in 2017.

Matteo Ortenzi, the Chief Executive Officer of the company’s Asia-Pacific region had recently conceded that high taxes levied on luxury vehicles was a major roadblock that dissuades people from buying such cars in India.

But despite the taxation policy, the car major remains bullish of the Indian market and therefore has launched all its recent models be it the Aventador SVJ or a Huraan Evo in India within a short span of their unveiling in the global market.
