'The thief was too slow," says a smiling Melbourne shop owner after a botched robbery attempt

We've all learnt since childhood that 'Slow and steady wins the race," but that wasn't true for a Melbourne thief who was so slow, that he gave enough time to police to wait for him, as he emerged from a shop he burgled. Shop owner Peter Arora called him a "dumb $#*'.

According to Channel 7 News a thief in Melbourne entered a mobile phone shop at Spencer St in Melbourne CBD last night and took several minutes to collect goods worth $6,000.

Footage shows that he smashed the front door to enter the premises, but then went about his 'business' quite casually, as if there was no hurry. As soon as he crawled back out of the smashed front door, with his arms filled with goods he stole, the two waiting Police officers arrested him.
Presumably, the break in set off an alarm to alert the police, but the slow thief seemed to be completely oblivious of the time of he was taking, even rummaging through a charity collection box.

Shop owner Peter Arora told 7 News Melbourne, that the thief "could easily have run away, but he was collecting coins and other things. He was too slow."

With a laugh, Mr Arora called him a 'dumb#%*'.

The incident took place last night, Wednesday December 27, 2017.

The 41 year old could-have-been thief has been charged with burglary.

So, is he really Melbourne's slowest thief?
