What does it mean to be a genuine entrant? Can you get visa without clearing English language tests? Do you know there is a refund policy for the fee you pay to your provider? Should you even come to Australia?

Pakistani students need to obtain a visa prior to commencing their education in Australia, but not all of them are able to secure an entry in the foreign land.

While there could be many factors for not being able to come to Australia, rejection of visa application is a common reason.
Australia is a very popular destination for Pakistani students, and I am not surprised that so many students apply to study in Australia every year: Imran Lakhani
Thousands of students from Pakistan apply to study in Australia every year and Imran Lakhani from Vision Consultants does not think the number is shocking.

“Australia is a very popular destination for Pakistani students, and I am not surprised that so many students apply to study in Australia every year,” he tells SBS Urdu.

“In my opinion, Australia is the most preferred destination for Pakistani students at present.”

Why students come to Australia?

“There are many reasons students prefer Australia these days,” says Rumina Iqbal (also known as Roma) from Vision Consultants.
The quality of education in Australia is much better than many other international destinations and students generally enjoy the Australian living standards: Rumina Iqbal
“An important factor is the possibility of obtaining permanent residency after graduation, but there are other incentives too. The quality of education in Australia is much better than many other international destinations and students generally enjoy the Australian living standards."

Are you a genuine entrant?

According to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement is an integrity measure to ensure that the student visa programme is used as intended and not as a way for international students to maintain ongoing residency in Australia.

This means, Mr Lakhani explains, that a student has to convince the case officer that the sole purpose of coming to Australia is to acquire an education and nothing else.

“It is not recommended to mention in your student visa application that you want to stay in Australia even after finishing your education,” he advises.
