After multiple reschedules, the 2021 NAIDOC Awards ceremony has officially been cancelled.
In a statement, organisers said that with on-going travel uncertainty, "planning for an event of this magnitude was not possible."
The event was itself a replacement for last year's ceremony, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Initially slated for June 3 in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), the awards were delayed and moved to Sydney when outbreaks around the country caused concern for vulnerable Arrernte communities.
However, an intimate in-person event set to broadcast from the Opera House in July was ultimately scrapped as Sydney was gripped by the Delta-variant outbreak.
The winners will now announced online, with NITV Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts will be rolling out the successful nominees beginning December 1.
The NAIDOC Awards recognise excellence, dedication and activism within First Nations communities, and potential winners are nominated by members of their community.
There are ten award categories, covering the fields of art, education and training, sport, environment and leadership.
