When Aggie Vlotman had her first child, she expected joy and found it. But she didn’t anticipate the toll it would take on her marriage. Sleepless nights, changing priorities, and unspoken frustrations pushed their relationship to the brink. Yet from that struggle, an idea was born, and a game was created.

KEY POINTS
  • Determined to do things differently the second time around, Aggie took action. She created a game for new parents to help them stay connected through the chaos of early parenthood.
  • What began as a personal solution quickly resonated with others. Within a week of its launch, the game was fully funded on Kickstarter- proof that many couples are quietly struggling and seeking support.
  • Research from Relationships Australia shows many couples struggle during the transition to parenthood. A 2021 study found that 20% break up within the first year, and relationship satisfaction often declines over the first 10 years. Common stressors include unmet expectations, differing values, financial strain, and uneven division of chores.

When we got pregnant again with our second child, I was excited but was also terrified for my relationship with my husband. We knew that simply ‘surviving’ as parents was not going to be enough for us. So we put in the work to do better for each other. I then felt inspired to develop a fun and practical game to help us avoid the slippery slope of putting our relationship in the back burner again.
