As more and more funds are poured into helping women and children escape domestic violence, however, those from migrant communities and culturally diverse communities still continue to face language, legal, and access to support services issues.


Gender violence has come under the spotlight as the government pledged increased funding to tackle the problem.

Her uncertainty about where to go for help is not unique among migrant women and women of different cultures.

The Resettlement Agency, AMES Australia (Adult Multicultural Education Services) has surveyed 30 community leaders in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, about the barriers migrant women face.

50 percent of respondents said their communities had inadequate access to services and support.

53 percent were unsure where to get help, and 55 percent said there was no adequate place to access refugees.
